The Divide presents an exhibition of new paintings by Lesley Anderson and Adrienne Rempel. The works present considerations of illusionistic space and the denial of the traditional pictorial window. Motif and ground are explored in a duet of encompassing grounds and objects suspended.
Anderson’s practice is founded on experiential, optical and formal curiosities. Her works are paintings on shaped supports that create and deny dimensionality.
Rempel's large-scale monochromes are made by layering successive washes of latex housepaint on canvas. These works produce a saturated sense of environment, encouraging a phenomenological response in the viewer.
