Gallery FUKAI is pleased to announce Psychic Pressure Engine. An installation by Vancouver based artist Christopher Donnelly.

Christopher Donnelly was born in Vancouver, Canada. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and Emily Carr University of Art and Design. He is an alumnus of the Capilano University Art Institute for Sculpture. He has exhibited in Vancouver at the Helen Pitt Gallery (2007), The Emergency Room (2008), The Grace Gallery (2009 & 2010) and The Capilano University Art Gallery (2009 & 2011).

Christopher’s work explores the dialogue between drawing and the constructed object. Within these broad parameters diverse themes and ideas come together and cross-pollinate with one another. Elements of residential architecture, theatrical props, industrial foundry patterns, technical diagrams and geometrical concepts inform his investigations of the physics of provisional structures, shelter & locomotion.

The artist’s materials are sourced from building supply stores, salvaged from beaches and building demolition sites or taken from the greedy clutches of hoarders. The attention to craft and detail in his work reflects a principled approach to the poetry of common materials. At once analytical, humorous and metaphorical, the artist’s work proposes an elemental world in uneasy relationship with the predictable design logic and banal functionalism of the built environment.

Psychic Pressure Engine is a sculptural installation created specifically for Gallery FUKAI.
