On March 11, 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake struck along the Pacific coast of northern Japan, in the Tohoku region, causing widespread destruction and an unbearably great loss of life. The immensity of all that took place is still astounding, but the process of resolutely rebuilding has been progressing at a steady pace.

This exhibition portrays the destruction, but also the still on-going recovery and rejuvenation of this region. Through photographs taken by amateur and professional photographers we witness the devastating impact of the natural disaster on the land and the people and the efforts to deal with the emotional and physical trauma in both the immediate and longer term.

The images in the exhibition were captured and collected by the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (Japan), Miyagi Prefecture and Canadian Medical Assistance Teams. The Exhibition is Presented by the Consulate General of Japan.
