GO! A TEMPORARY GALLERY for PERMANENT CHANGE is a collaborative production by ASIR studio, Rural Urban Fantasy Project and Organelle Design, all active within the Downtown Eastside neighborhood. The GO! installation is to take place in a forgotten courtyard in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown off of East Pender Street with close proximity to the Chinese Cultural Centre.
The project is comprised of two parts, the first being the physical installation of sculptural canopy to act as shelter, screen and sign. The second part includes light-based installations, video projections, performances and community events programmed for the courtyard for the duration of the 2010 Olympics. The intent is that, through the activation of one of many of Vancouver's underused, under-lit alleys and courtyards, we can expose a ‘public’ space to bring local groups, tourists and the curious together to celebrate neighbourhood and community.
The courtyard will be open to the public starting at dusk with programmed events taking place between 6 and 10 pm. Please visit www.asirarch.net for schedule information including times and advance tickets (for select events).
Go! Gallery / Bright Light umbrella guides can be received at ASIR Studio 529 Carrall St, Vancouver Special 3612 Main St & select locations.
