On February 5th, 2010, East Van Studios will house Summit, a one-night, multi-artist photography auction that will benefit the animals of SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today Society).

Established in Mission in 2004, SAINTS is an end-of-life shelter for senior, disabled, and terminally ill animals that have nowhere else to go. Since 2004, over 350 animals have come through SAINTS: cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, horses, cows, pigs, donkeys, sheep, bird, and Karl the llama. If we can, in time, find these animals a home of their own, then we do. If that home never comes, they will be safe and cherished until the end of their days.
33 photographers, based in Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa, will exhibit work in Summit. Colour or black and white, size, and subject matter are all determined by the artists. Each piece starts at a base bid of $75 or $100. A silent auction will run throughout the course of the evening, in addition to a multi-business raffle draw.
Summit is conceived of and organized by local producer and artist Zoe Peled. Since graduating from Emily Carr University in 2003, she has worked with several arts events and organizations in Vancouver, such as The Cheaper Show, Have In Mind, and the Trick 17 Stop Motion Film Festival. She sits on the board of SAINTS, which also contributes to her unremitting project: investigating and deconstructing human/animal relationships through visual arts and critical theory. In late spring, she will launch The Assembly, a production and event company.
